History

Solis AS was established in 1992 by Solveig Hjelmeland. Hjelmeland had her background from another distributor named Isaksen. She ended her employment to start up Solis AS and start her search for new and strong brands with an exclusive distribution agreement for the Norwegian market, within the cosmetic industry.

The company was soon recognized as a strong player within the fragrance category in particular. The brands were among others Samba, Sonia Rykiel, Boucheron and Nina Ricci. The width of the portfolio was soon extended with launches from Jean Paul Gaultier and Issey Miyake from BPI in 1999 and Burberry and Paul Smith from Interperfums.

The firm got a few years later the opportunity to further expand into new categories when they took over the rights for Artdeco make-up, Biodroga skin care and Sans Soucis skin care and make up. This made Solis AS a full service distributor within all the three selective axes in specialty trade, with known and strong brands. Solis AS have today a wide selection of brands from faithful and long-term international partners.

In 2015 Solis decided to expand their business to Sweden through the acquisition of the company Alf Sörensen AB, dealing with many of the same brands and the same kind of business in the Swedish market. The group of companies is thus structured for future growth in the Nordic market.

The company was acquired by EMH AS in July 2018 and is now part of the Scandinavian Cosmetic Group, which is the largest distributor of Health & Beauty care products in Scandinavia. The ultimate owner of the group is the German stock listed investment company Aurelius.
